Finding the best sunscreen for your face or your body can be challenging (especially with the fake advertisement we see nowadays; DON’T FALL FOR IT!) It doesn’t only shield your skin from the UV and UVA rays, but sunscreens are necessary for your skin routine to prevent you from sunburns, premature aging, cancer and of course hyperpigmentation. So yes, sunscreens are essential for your skin routine, 100%!
There are many sunscreens on the market, and currently, new ones arriving; from sprays, moisturizers with sunscreen, stickers, tinted sunscreens (you name it!).

What to look for in your sunscreen
One of the things I first struggled with when choosing the right sunscreen, was the WHITECAST! Yes, if you are anything like me, white cast in sunscreens is a real issue! I love my skin routine until the point I had to use sunscreen, I used to hate it because I had the wrong sunscreen.
However, you need to wear your sunscreen EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Yes, you need to use it during the summer.
Yes, you need to use it during the winter.
Yes, you need to use it on cloudy days.
Yes, you need to use it on rainy days.
Chemical vs Mineral
There is a whole discussion between chemical VS mineral sunscreens (which I might have to do a new post all about it). However, for the purpose of this post, you need to identify which one you will be willing to use, and which one is best for you.
Personally, I felt in love with mineral sunscreens, also because chemical sunscreens do react in my skin leaving me with pimples sometimes (I have dry skin). Based on this, I made my decision to stick to mineral sunscreens, and on special occasions, I use chemical sunscreens. However, this is my personal opinion and my personal experience with both sunscreens; I encourage you to try both and see which one sits best with your skin.
If you have sensitive skin, you might want to try and find a mineral sunscreen as it is less irritating to the skin. Anyone with oily or acne-prone skin will find chemical sunscreens much easier to apply and will make your face look less greasy.
Fragrance
One thing I always do when picking my products is to check if there is fragrance on them. Why? Because fragrance is the type of ingredient that might not cause anything in your skin today or tomorrow, however, after using it for a long time your skin can start reacting to the product that you have always used. Why? because there is fragrance and fragrance is irritant to the skin.
Fragrance is indeed a marketing gig that companies have used to hook consumers to buy more products based on the ‘’good smell of it’’. However, just because it’s there and smells nice, does not mean it is good for your skin (but, this might be a topic for another day!).
A better option would be choosing a sunscreen that has hydrating ingredients, like hyaluronic acid and antioxidants which will help fight discoloration.
Based on all this information, I will show you the best sunscreens for you to try that will not harm your skin.
Sunscreens:
Bondi Sands SPF 50+
This sunscreen is fragrance free, it is also a SPF 50+ which has full protection against UV and UVA. It’s really affordable and last you for a long time. This is a simple product as does not have any actives that could help the skin while protecting against the UVA and UV. However, it is a good SPF 50+, definitely recommend if you are looking for a SPF 50+ with a simple and basic formulate.
Note: This is a chemical sunscreen.
Cetaphil SPF 50 moisturizer
This is also a simple sunscreen, great for sensitive skin. This also has a great benefit as it is a moisturizer as well. Meaning that you don’t need to use your moisturizer underneath this product. Great 2 in 1 product, and very affordable. It is also fragrance fee.
Note: this is a chemical sunscreen.
Beauty of Joseon SPF 50
This is also a good product, it has been very popular in social media (Instagram, TikTok) and I was very apperceive when I seen this product, but is actually a good sunscreen. It is also a fragrance free product.
Note: This is a chemical sunscreen.
Malibu Sunscreen SPF 50
This is also a simple sunscreen; you can get this sunscreen at 100ml or 200ml if you needed. Its also very affordable. It might not last you longer than the other products, but for how affordable it is, is a great product to get whatever you need, even if you are on a really really sort budget.
Note: this is a chemical sunscreen
Altruist Sunscreen SPF 50
This is also another simple sunscreen with an opportunity to get 2 in 1. Very affordable; even though there is no other actives that would improve the skin, it is a great sunscreen to use.
Note: This is a chemical sunscreen
Colorescience SPF 50
Colorescience is a great brand, they have tinted sunscreens also which you can use. However, this is the normal version. This sunscreen is going to last you for a very good time and is fragrance free. This is a mineral sunscreen and has no white cast.
Note: This is a mineral sunscreen.
If you decided to use mineral sunscreens like myself and want more options for them, you can check more options of mineral sunscreens.
